The World of Electronics

Today was different.

The schedule was a short 128 mile run to Santa Fe. It was going to be a quiet run. Brendan's iPod gave up the ghost last night and was as dead as a dodo. No music. Shame. Cut to the chase though and can confirm tonight that he is back on the iPod, it having be resurrected in the Apple store here this evening. All the data is lost though so the music programme is severely curtailed. That's a real loss.

Then three petrol stations in a row refused my debit card. Credit cards needed a zip code which I don't have. Eventually paid cash.

Then tonight after we checked in and left our small bags in the room we went back out to the car to collect the larger bags. When we got back to the room a little red light was flashing on the lock. None of the key cards made any difference. We went back to reception and they said Maintenance would be on the way. He did his best and was very pleasant but it took about three quarters of an hour with us sitting in the corridor before we got back into the room.

Then Jill went into the biggest sulk of all. Totally dead. Not a peep: just a black screen. Not our day for electronics. Seamus checked on Google and found someone with a similar problem and we managed to reset it and get her talking to us again.

Believe it or not it was a great day. The route to Santa Fe saw a significant change in landscape and elevation. We had a wonderful day in Santa Fe and then decided to head for Albuquerque. The forecast for Santa Fe is for 3 inches of snow tonight. No doubt the US can handle that in its stride but we took no chances and headed to lower ground. We got here in the early evening: got to the Apple store: went through the sagas outlined above.

It's too late for a quality Blog. We plan a later start tomorrow and will be around town for a lot of the day. Whether we get to Gallup or somewhere short of it tomorrow will depend - just keep an eye on Spot!

  1. Well that was certainly a day when the ghost of Route 66 had enough of all these new fangled things and wanted you to experience back to basics (ish)!!! B if only someone thought of backing all the music up??!! (we'll say no more!) Good plan on hitting Albuquerque - hope you enjoy your day around town. Love from the home front xxx

  3. Pity about the music but the solution is clear...in-car singalong session!!!! Glad the iPod itself was resurrected though, and that you all got the best out of the day nonetheless - well done and enjoy tomorrow!!!

  4. Terrific stuff! and some crackin' pictures in there to boot. Looks like not everything has gone as smoothly as hoped but I guess those are the trial and tribulations that one must suffer to get the true route 66 experience!

I'll see if I can't get you on Skype some time soon but this SPOT thing has been fantastic for tracking your progress.

And remember; Don't Panic! Hopefully you all remembered your towels too.
